Scion models getting axed…

Scion, Toyota’s youth brand, will drop the xB and xD from the lineup, a move that will bring the offshoot brand more in line with its original goals. From the outset, Toyota claimed that Scion vehicles would be one-offs, meaning there would be no new generations of cars offering minor style changes to the existing cars. When the Scion xB and tC were hits right off the bat, Scion rethought that plan and decided to redo them as second generations.

Now, according to Autoblog, the xD and xB are being canned, in favor of all new models. Sales of the xB have been dismal, just 17,000 of the oversized monsters sold last year, compared to a high of 60,000 in the model’s tiny, fuel efficient first generation. The xD took over from the xA and instead of competing for the cheap car buying crowd like its predecessor, is priced starting at over $16,000.

Scion hasn’t announced any plans to kill the tC off, but that would actually make plenty of sense considering the Scion FR-S will occupy a similar space in the company’s lineup. The $24,930 FR-S might make the tC look like a bargain with its under $20,000 price though. Maybe Scion is hoping FR-S fans will get bait and switched into tCs.

0-60 in 7.3 seconds and a 1/4 comes in 8 seconds later at 15.3. Not impressed? I wouldn't be to worried much, the car is a balanced package off the lot. Besides, do a little tuning and I'm sure the car wouldn't be a slouch in a straight line or in the corners.

Spotted over at SubCompact Culture this youtube clip has the latest small compact car, the Scion IQ, hitting the twistys of the local kart track. Pretty cool if you ask us! Move over Smart! Scion just got more cred with the aftermarket. Hahaha.
