Cleaning Out the Hard Drive

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I have been spending a lot of time downloading and uploading pictures and files so that the Import Junkiez Archive isn’t just a big old mess of broken links. Going back to the first post all the way to now, I have pretty much completed everything. To get all the pics back, I had to bring out my trusty old external hard drive with all the backups. I got to flipping through some old galleries of stuff I haven’t seen since I started posting 7 years ago. Man, has it been that long?! I just thought I’d post up some favorites of the bunch. Lets take a quick trip down memory lane, but don’t blame the Sony Mavica for the pics…its me and my lack of photo skills.

I think I’ll leave it at that for now or else we’d be here forever, right? LOL. Alrighty, till next time!

It’s My Thursday: Update Edition

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Since it started to rain down here in LA, I realized it’s been a while since I had a “It’s My Thursday” installment, so lets get this rolling shall we?

Happy New Year!

I’m sure Infamous joins me with saying, “Thank You for Your Support!” We can’t seem to say it enough really. It’s thanks to you that we have made some big strides by jumping onto Facebook and Twitter. We will be taking advantage of this new fangled social networking idea in the near future, but until then we will be updating as usual here as well as over there. If you haven’t already, be sure to visit us on our Facebook and Twitter pages. We provided nifty icons on the sidebar to the right for you to click on! —>

Also, if you haven’t been around lately be sure to check out our photos from the LA Street Food Festival! Although we couldn’t stay the entire event (work didn’t want to give me the day off ), we did our best to capture the moment. We had fun, for the most part, just wish we had more time to wait in more lines for more magically delicious treats. We will definitely be keeping an eye out for the 2nd installment of the Food Fest when it comes up. I’m still craving some Uncle Lau’s sliders…those things were awesome.

Not much else will be going on this weekend for me. I’m looking forward to just relaxing and doing nothing. Probably work more on other backend stuff to tie the site back together. How about you? Leave us a comment! We like those. For the most part ;) Otherwise, have a safe weekend!

On a sidenote: I tend to get the question, “What does, ‘It’s my Thursday’ mean?” Pretty much, its the Import Junkiez version of the Weekly Round-Up/Weekend Post. It got it’s name because it’s Friday night and people are gearing up for their weekend, while I, unfortunately, still have one more day of real work. So while most of you folks out there have already begun their weekend, I’m still on Thursday in my work week  :(   Sucks huh?

Twitter

Ladies and Gentlemen…we have made the jump to Twitter. Which means when new posts go up, they should go up on Twitter too. That’s the plan for now, but in the near future it’ll come in handy indeed. We’ll keep you posted when the time comes ;) For now tho, you can follow us as we navigate through this social networking age!

Import Junkiez 2010

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to Import Junkiez! A lot has been going on behind the scenes here at Import Junkiez so we took a little break from the site for the Holidays. In that time a lot has passed us by, such as SEMA in November, the LA Auto Show this past December as well as the NAIAS that’s going on as we speak. (Have you seen that Ford Focus?! Geez, finally Ford.) Not to mention this past week was CES and the introduction of the 3D TV hype machine as well as the introduction of the Google “SuperPhone”, the NexusOne. For New Year’s I was able to join 70k other Angelenos down in Long Beach, CA for Red Bull New Year: No Limits to watch Travis Pastrana jump his car off the Pine Pier onto a barge 200ft out in Rainbow Harbor. That was a good way to ring in the New Year…well the East Coast’s New Year, we still had 3 hours till the West Coast actually saw a second of 2010. Good thing there were ample bars and demos to pass the time, like the DriftingX stuff along Ocean Drive. Fun.

Which brings us to now…we are now back, full of energy (thanks Red Bull rep for all the free Red Bull I could ask for) and ready to go to town with Import Junkiez. We did some upgrades to the back end of our site, so new stuff should be coming up on a regular basis…well as regular as it gets for us. :/ So sit back, relax and check out the site. If you want to comment on stuff we are pretty open about letting anyone comment. We just ask that you register first as to avoid the crazy spam that tries to creep in on a regular basis. The only rule is…”Make it a good first comment, or else we just might ignore you.” Also, if you feel you got something to contribute (like articles, media, tips or constructive criticism) send a friendly email to ijunkbox@importjunkiez.com. I do enjoy reading emails as long as it’s not my real job’s email ;)

I think that’s it. Time for more posts! Thanks again for all your support and here’s to 2010. Wait…where’s my flying car?

Testing…1…2…3…

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Hey ImportJunkiez looks like its back online! WooHoo! Finally, I know. Had some issues with billing, which has all been worked out. Its good to be back and we should be posting up “regularly” again shortly. First, I need to wake up InfamousJJ so he can start cranking out posts for us.  WAKE UP DUDE! TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK….

Still No Computer

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Week 5 without my laptop. Its been really boring at the apartment…

InfamousJJ has been doing an excellent job finding spare time to post up stuff while I’m without my computer. Thanks! On the bright side I still have access to the blog through the Wordpress app for Blackberry, so I’ll be randomly jumping in and out for now. Don’t be surprised about short random blurbs from me since the BlackBerry Tour keyboard is nice, but no way to write long passages. Please do though, let me know if you see any issues as this app is in beta at the moment and has a possibility causing havok for the site. Hopefully not! *cross fingers!!! Alright other than that, everything is good in the IJ universe. Hope you all have a good hump day!

Till the next Update!

A Zipper Lane!

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Last time I saw a Zipper Lane was on Oahu in Hawaii. How exciting is that? Anyhow, this Zipper Lane is used to block off 2 lanes of the 710 North to allow passage to the South while they fix the southbound lanes of the 710. I think California can use this form of traffic mitigation like Hawaii, instead of adding more lanes to ever-expanding freeways.

Anyhow, if you haven’t noticed already, we do have a new writer, InfamousJJ. Fellow founder of Import Junkiez, we should all welcome him into the world of blogging. He’s been doing good on his part so far! Hooray!

So as we chug along with a new writer, we should also expect more posts from me! You see I’ve got this new fangled WordPress app for my BlackBerry. iPhone users have enjoyed this thing, but now Automattic & Danaias, designer and creator of the WordPress app, has opened up the beta testing for the BB. If you got a blog and a BB, should look into it. Point your BB browser to –> altho, they do say not to use it on a main blog. So if the site crashes….blame the BB WordPress app.

Believe that is it…for now. Things are looking a little less dormant now. Heheh. I still think the site could use a spiffier theme. What do you think…hmmmm….

Slowly Getting There…

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Yup. Finally was able to import most of the posts from the archived stuff, HOORAY! Import Junkiez isn’t looking so empty now. I’m still missing a lot of pictures and it seems the entire user database did not make it over with tonight’s random update. The main reason I wanted to update the site was because I was tired of my Blackberry buzzing non-stop with “Spam” user registrations. It is quite annoying when the spam-bots are constantly sending me fake registrations 6-10 times a day. Hopefully the registration blocker will do the trick. Anyhow, after tinkering with that I had decided to try to see if I could get my old posts back and after a couple hours I can at least say that I’m much closer to the way this blog should be looking. In the future I plan to add a decent theme overlay so we’d get something less sterile than how this page currently looks! =(

Alright bedtime…

BTW – please register if you haven’t done so already! And if you were from back in the days, please re-register. I don’t think I’ll be able to get my user list back =(

Lost Everything…sort of

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Well. It seems the old Import Junkiez stuff doesn’t want to move over to the new Import Junkiez site. What does that mean? Even though I can access my posts and manage everything over @ importjunkies, I can’t get any of the stuff to move over. That’s right my posts, my pics, and parts of my theme. Also stuck over at importjunkies is my member database. So those of you who had signed up on the old site will prolly need to redo it again for the new site. That’s the only thing that sucks about that – thanks 1and1. Arrgh. Well, the good news is, the site seems to be running more stable and in years to come we won’t worry about having lost posts and lost members. I prolly should have done the move over sooner but hey, as I said before: Import Junkiez is done on our spare time. I also prolly should have done it after I came back from the Philippines…not they day before I leave. Oh well…you live and learn, right? Well, I have to finish up packing, i just thought I’d tell you all before running off.

See you all later!
