Good Eats: RAMEN!!!

Shin Sen Gumi, Fountain Valley, CA

If you are ever out in Fountain Valley, you might want to check out this ramen place called, Shin-Sen-Gumi. This is exactly what ramen should taste like, not that Maruchan instant ramen! lol. Seriously though, I would say this is probably one of the best places in the Southland that serves tonkotsu ramen outside Japan. It's that good.

Unlike most places, this place allows you to choose the strength of the broth, amount of oil, and the firmness of the noodles. A regular bowl runs about $7 with extra toppings such as chashu, corn, egg, whatever come in at $2 each. The service is quick and in no time you will be slurping down noodles like there is no tomorrow. And if tomorrow comes, you can order extra noodles for 95 cents more. There is also set meals which come with a drink, sides, and a bowl of ramen. Their fried rice and gyoza are pretty delicious too.

I have become such a die-hard fan of Shin-Sen-Gumi that me and my buddy find ourselves there every week slurping down bowls of ramen after a long hard day at work. We're not the only ones, as there's often a crowd waiting for tables to open up. It has received praise through out various food blogs on the internet, in newspapers, and in magazines. So if your out in the OC, and looking for a good place to eat - check out Shin-Sen-Gumi, you won't be disappointed.

Thread of the Week: Welding Turbo Fins

On a side note...hope you all had a safe Labor Day Weekend...especially with this crazy heatwave. It was a nice 108 today at the house. Damn can't wait for winter...

Every once in a while a thread will light up the internet and over the past couple weeks this one thread has been passed around the enthusiast sites and back. This one comes from MX6.com:

"ok my new turbo arrived... no go coz everything was way off measurements etc. so I took off my old T3/T04e 57trim and welded 1/2 of the fins (not fully closed shut as you can see) on the hotside used to spool @ 3000rpm & get 5psi @4000rpm now only 2400rpm & get 5psi by 3500rpm.

way more torque(throttle response was amazing too) @ around 2000 rpm it feelz like my dads supercharged v8 now ^^.... weight increase by a total of 3.5grams (6 fins) + maybe 2-3 more grams from the stainless steel weld spots (pic was taken when finz had minimal weld spots). btw it has a bit of the whining sound when spooling ... I like it alot but letz see how long it'll last."

This member even included a wonderful picture:

Read the thread for the obligatory douche comments and forum roll call: Turbo Mod with VIDEO!

Near the end of the thread you can find an actual website dedicated to the turbo build, along with the video of the turbo spooling: CopexTurbo.com

Genius? LOL...who knows, but I'll keep my eye on this one...
